After a Flood: 5 Steps to Recovery

Floods in Chicago, Vernon Hills, or Aurora require swift restoration. Euro Pros Inc., with over three years of experience in the construction industry, has completed restoration projects in Chicago, Vernon Hills, and other cities and offers the following step-by-step plan.

Step 1: Water Removal

Use pumps and dehumidifiers (Dri-Eaz). In Chicago, we dried a corridor and bedroom in 5 days with professional dehumidifiers. Tip: Check moisture levels with a hygrometer to prevent mold (EPA, www.epa.gov).

Step 2: Demolition

Remove damaged drywall and insulation. In Chicago, we replaced R-13 insulation (per Illinois codes) and drywall in the corridor and bedroom.

Tip: Photograph damage for insurance, following IICRC standards (www.iicrc.org).

Step 3: Material Installation

Install USG Sheetrock drywall and apply Sherwin-Williams Mold-Resistant paint. In Chicago, we primed the ceiling, applied Easy Sand 45 joint compound, sanded, and added two coats of paint for moisture protection. In Vernon Hills, we used latex sealant (ASTM C731) around pipes in a laundry room.

Step 4: System Checks

Inspect wiring and ventilation (ASHRAE 62.2). In Chicago, we tested wiring with a multimeter before installing drywall. In Vernon Hills, we checked plumbing at the water heater. Tip: Install leak detectors for prevention.

Step 5: Final Inspection
